Changes and corrections
Last updated
These calculators put dates on deadlines people act on, so a wrong one matters. When a calculator gave a wrong answer, the fix is listed here with what it did before and what it does now. Guides that were corrected are listed too, and so are new guides. We find most of these by reading each tool's code against the rule it claims to follow and re-running its worked examples. If you find one we missed, the contact page says what to send, and the methodology page explains how the checking works.
October 13, 2026: 14 calculator corrections
The 12 October review ended with a list of known limitations we had not yet fixed. These are the fixes, each checked against the statute, regulator guidance or holiday list it depends on.
| Calculator | What was wrong | What it does now |
|---|---|---|
| Support Ticket Response Deadline | Had no holiday calendar and no 24x7 option. A P1 ticket opened Fri 15 Jan 2027 at 15:10 (desk 08:00–18:00) got a resolution target of Mon 18 Jan 09:10, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. | Takes a holiday calendar and custom closure dates, and lists the closures it skipped: the same ticket with the US calendar is due Tue 19 Jan 09:10. A 24×7 option turns both targets into elapsed hours (Fri 15 Jan 19:10). |
| SLA Response / Resolution Deadline | Had no holiday calendar and no 24x7 option. 16 business hours from Fri 15 Jan 2027 15:10 (08:00–18:00) gave Tue 19 Jan 11:10, burning ten hours on MLK Day. | Skips the selected country's public holidays and any custom closures: Wed 20 Jan 11:10 with the US calendar. A 24×7 option gives plain elapsed time. |
| Payroll Pay Period Generator | Used the federal (OPM) holiday list, so a Friday payday before a Saturday holiday moved back a day although banks are open: Fri 3 Jul 2026 became Thu 2 Jul. | Uses the Federal Reserve's holiday schedule for the US, as the ACH tool does. Fri 3 Jul 2026 stays a payday; Sunday holidays still close the Fed the Monday after. State holidays no longer move paydays. |
| Net 30 Invoice Due Date | Moved the due date off a weekend or holiday but left the early-payment discount date on the raw day: invoice 25 Nov 2026 with 2/10 showed the discount ending Sat 5 Dec next to a due date of Mon 28 Dec. | Moves both, as N.Y. Gen. Constr. Law § 25 does for payment due on or within a period ending on a weekend or holiday: discount until Mon 7 Dec, due Mon 28 Dec, each showing the day it moved from. Unticking the box keeps both raw dates. |
| Payment Terms Calculator (2/10 Net 30) | Had no calendar and never moved either date: 2/10 Net 30 from 25 Nov 2026 showed the discount ending Sat 5 Dec and net due Fri 25 Dec (Christmas Day). | Takes a workweek and holiday calendar and moves both dates to the next business day by default: discount until Mon 7 Dec, net due Mon 28 Dec. Untick to keep raw dates. The 37.2% annualised cost is still computed on the stated terms. |
| Freelance Invoice Scheduler | Pure calendar arithmetic: from 26 Oct 2026 every 30 days on Net 30, invoice 3 was issued on Christmas Day, invoice 4 on Sunday 24 Jan 2027, and invoice 2 fell due on Christmas Day. | Takes a holiday calendar. By default an invoice scheduled for a weekend or holiday goes out the next business day (invoice 3 on Mon 28 Dec, invoice 4 on Mon 25 Jan) and a due date on one moves to the next business day (invoice 2 due Mon 28 Dec). Later invoices stay anchored to the start date. Both options can be switched off, and every moved date is listed. |
| Purchase Order Lead-Time | Counted the transit leg on the supplier's holiday calendar in business days, so an ocean or air leg, or a leg in the buyer's country, could not be entered. The page example also said a PO released 1 Jun 2026 (10 + 5 business days, US) is receipted Mon 22 Jun; the tool gave Tue 23 Jun because of Juneteenth. | Transit can run in business days on the supplier's calendar (the default, unchanged results), in business days on a receiving country's calendar, or in calendar days with receipt on the next receiving working day: ready Fri 11 Dec 2026 plus 14 calendar days arrives Christmas Day and is receipted Mon 28 Dec. The page example now says Tue 23 Jun, 22 calendar days. |
| Customs Demurrage Penalty Tracker | In calendar-day mode it rolled a last free day that fell on a weekend or holiday to the next working day, which only some tariffs do: four calendar free days from Tue 22 Dec 2026 gave Mon 28 Dec. | Counts calendar free time straight through, as a calendar-day tariff does, and warns when the last free day falls on a non-working day: Sat 26 Dec. A box applies the extension for tariffs that grant it (Mon 28 Dec). Working-day mode is unchanged. |
| Mechanic’s Lien Filing Deadline | Approximated Texas as 120 days and New York as 240 days (and Illinois's four months as 120 days), took only 'last labor/materials' for every state, had no notice-of-completion input and never moved a deadline off a weekend. From 1 Jun 2026: TX Tue 29 Sep 2026, NY Wed 27 Jan 2027 for every project, CA Sun 30 Aug 2026. | Applies each statute's own trigger and unit: TX the 15th day of the 4th month after the month the original contract was completed (3rd month for residential): Thu 15 Oct 2026; NY 8 months (Mon 1 Feb 2027), or 4 for a single-family dwelling (Thu 1 Oct 2026); IL 4 months. California takes the recorded notice of completion or cessation (60 days for a direct contractor, 30 for others). A deadline on a weekend or holiday moves under each state's computation statute: CA Mon 31 Aug. |
| NZ Court Filing Deadline | Excluded the provincial anniversary day from every working-day count. That is the Senior Courts Act 2016 s 4 definition; the High Court Rules r 1.3 and District Court Rules r 1.4 definitions, which set most filing periods, do not exclude it. It also never moved a deadline off a court holiday that is not a public holiday. | Asks where the period comes from. Under the Rules the anniversary day is counted, but a deadline landing on it or another court holiday (24 Dec or Easter Tuesday in the High Court) moves to the next day the registry is open (HCR r 1.18, DCR r 1.22). 30 working days from 1 Dec 2026 with Auckland selected: Thu 4 Feb 2027 before, Wed 3 Feb now (Thu 4 Feb under the Act). |
| GDPR / DSAR Response Deadline | Never moved a deadline off a weekend or public holiday, though the EDPB (Guidelines 01/2022, para 161) and the ICO both say it moves to the next working day: a request received Sat 31 Jan 2026 showed Sat 28 Feb. | Takes a holiday calendar (UK by default) and moves the one-month and extended deadlines to the next working day: Mon 2 Mar 2026. The extension stays three months from receipt, as the ICO directs (31 Jan gives 30 Apr), and the page says the EDPB has not set a method. |
| FCRA Adverse Action Waiting Period | Reported the fifth business day itself as 'final adverse on or after', which cuts the last day of the candidate's five days: notice sent Wed 20 May 2026 gave Thu 28 May. | Shows the waiting period running through Thu 28 May and the earliest final adverse action on the next business day, Fri 29 May, the reading fair-chance laws use ('at least five business days'). |
| NZ / AU Business Day Calculator | The page's FAQ said Australian Labour Day falls in four different months. | Three: March, May or October, as the calculator's holiday data has it. |
| NZ Filing Same-Day Cutoff | Its New Zealand-time default was patched in by searching the page for a data-tz attribute. | The zone is declared in the calculator's own settings and applied when the form refreshes, with no change to results. |
Holiday data, same day
- Was: Scotland's one-off World Cup bank holiday on Monday 15 June 2026 was missing. Now: Added, from gov.uk/bank-holidays (proclaimed 3 February 2026). Every 2024 to 2027 UK date now matches gov.uk.
- Was: Past UK one-offs were missing: VE Day 2020 (8 May, replacing 4 May), the 2022 Platinum Jubilee (2 and 3 June, replacing 30 May) and State Funeral (19 September), and the 2023 coronation (8 May). Now: Added, so counts that reach back to those years match gov.uk.
Guides corrected, same day
Every published guide that described one of these calculators was re-run and corrected, and shows an “Updated” date of 13 October. What each one said before, and says now:
- One Outage, Three Clocks: A Friday P1 From First Response to the Month-End Service Credit
- Said the ticket and SLA deadline tools had no holiday calendar and returned Mon 18 Jan 09:10 (restoration) and Tue 19 Jan 11:10 (permanent fix), to be moved by hand → both tools now take the US calendar and return Tue 19 Jan 09:10 and Wed 20 Jan 11:10 directly.
- Said 24x7 P1 clocks could not be entered → both tools have a 24×7 option (restoration Fri 15 Jan 19:10).
- From Finished Work to Cash: A Freelancer's Invoice, Due Date, Discount and ACH Timeline Through the 2026 Holidays
- Said the scheduler had no holiday or weekend setting and issued invoice 3 on Christmas Day → it now sends it Mon 28 Dec and invoice 4 on Mon 25 Jan, and moves invoice 2's due date to Mon 28 Dec; Priya's hand move of invoice 3 to Wed 23 Dec is kept as her choice.
- Said Payment Terms and the Net 30 discount fields never moved the discount date (Sat 5 Dec, Sat 2 Jan) → both now move it to Mon 7 Dec and Mon 4 Jan by default, with the N.Y. Gen. Constr. Law § 25 basis; the post explains that stating a weekday cutoff on the invoice overrides it.
- Said a client paying on 28 December could be argued three days late → under the next-business-day default (N.Y. § 25, Cal. Civ. Code § 11) that payment is on time unless the contract says the calendar date is final.
- Your SLA Clock Should Tick in Business Hours, Not Calendar Hours
- Said the SLA deadline calculator has no holiday calendar → it takes the agreement's holiday calendar, closure days and a 24x7 option.
- The Friday-Afternoon Ticket: When Is First Response Actually Due?
- Said the ticket calculator skips weekends but not public holidays → it skips the selected country's holidays and custom closures, so the post's holiday example comes out without a hand adjustment.
- Building a Pay Calendar: Why Paydays Move Earlier on Holidays
- Added that US paydays now follow the Federal Reserve calendar, so a Friday payday before a Saturday holiday (3 July 2026) no longer moves to Thursday.
- Purchase Order Lead Time: When Will the Goods Actually Arrive?
- Said lead time and transit are both counted in business days on the selected calendars → transit can now run on the receiving country's calendar or in calendar days.
- Net 30 Sounds Simple. When Is the Invoice Actually Due?
- Added the legal basis for moving a weekend due date (N.Y. Gen. Constr. Law § 25; Cal. Civ. Code § 11) and that the calculator now moves the discount deadline too.
- Is "2/10 Net 30" Worth It? The Hidden Interest Rate of Early-Payment Terms
- Said a Thursday invoice's discount window closes on a Sunday → the tenth day is a Sunday, but unless the terms say otherwise the discount can be taken on the Monday, and the calculator now moves it.
- Should You Offer 2/10 Net 30? The Supplier’s Side of Early-Payment Discounts
- Added that both windows move off a weekend or holiday by default unless the terms say the date is final.
- Said the implied annualised cost was ~36% → ~37% (2/98 × 365/20 = 37.2%, as the calculator shows).
- How to Schedule Recurring Freelance Invoices (and Actually Get Paid on Time)
- Example (1 July, no year) said invoice 2 due Aug 30 and the last invoice issued Nov 28, due Dec 28 → for 2026 with the US calendar: invoice 2 due Mon Aug 31, invoice 3 issued Mon Aug 31, the last issued Mon Nov 30 and due Dec 30, because the scheduler now moves weekend dates.
- The GDPR DSAR Deadline: "One Month" Is Trickier Than It Sounds
- Said the extension 'runs from the original deadline' → the ICO says three months from receipt (31 January → 30 April, not 28 April); the EDPB sets no method.
- Added that a deadline on a weekend or public holiday moves to the next working day (EDPB Guidelines 01/2022 para 161; ICO), with 2026 examples.
- The FCRA Pre-Adverse Action Waiting Period: How Long to Wait Before You Rescind an Offer
- Said the tool labels the fifth business day 'final adverse on or after' → it now shows the waiting period running through the fifth day and the earliest final action on the next business day (Friday the 12th in the example).
- Counting a Court Filing Deadline in New Zealand: Calendar Days, Working Days, and the Roll-Forward Rule
- Said the Senior Courts Act and High Court Rules both exclude 25 Dec–15 Jan and that the province's anniversary day is a non-working day → only the Act excludes the anniversary day; under the High Court and District Court Rules it is a working day but a court holiday, so a deadline on it moves to the next open day. Wellington, 30 working days from 1 Dec 2026: Wed 3 Feb 2027 under the Rules, Thu 4 Feb under the Act.
- A Mechanic’s Lien Deadline Is Shorter Than You Think — and the Clock Already Started
- Gave Texas as 'roughly 120 days', Illinois 'roughly 120 days' and New York 'about 240 days' (about 120 for a single-family dwelling) → the statutes' own units: Texas the 15th day of the 4th month after the trigger month (3rd for residential), Illinois 4 months, New York 8 months (4 for a single-family dwelling).
- Said the lien window runs from your last day on the job in most states → it depends on the state: completion of the whole project in California, the trigger month in Texas.
- Example (1 March, no year): California deadline May 30, New York 27 October → for completion on 1 March 2026: Saturday 30 May moves to Monday 1 June (CCP § 12a) and New York's eight months end Sunday 1 November, moving to Monday 2 November (GCL § 25-a).
October 12, 2026: 36 calculator corrections
Writing guides that chain several calculators together means running each one against its own page and its older guides side by side. That turned up these.
| Calculator | What was wrong | What it does now |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanic’s Lien Filing Deadline | California's 20-day preliminary notice and Florida's 45-day notice to owner were counted from the date entered, the LAST day of labour or materials. A last day of 1 Jun 2026 showed 'notice by Jun 21'. Both notices run from the FIRST day you furnish work (Cal. Civ. Code 8204; Fla. Stat. 713.06). | For California and Florida the tool states the rule (within 20 or 45 days of your first day on the job) instead of inventing a date from the last one. The lien filing deadline is unchanged. |
| Subscription Renewal Date | The August fix made renewals fall on the calendar date by default, but the 'roll to a working day' box still rendered ticked, so a 1 Jan 2026 annual plan showed Mon 4 Jan 2027. | The box starts unticked: the renewal is Fri 1 Jan 2027, as card billing does it. Tick it for invoiced terms. |
| Real Estate Closing Date | The August fix made calendar days the default, but the 'Use business days' box still rendered ticked, so a default 30-day close was counted as 30 business days (about six weeks). | The box starts unticked. Accepted 1 Jun 2026, the default close is Wed 1 Jul 2026 (Wed 15 Jul with business days ticked). |
| Discovery / Court Filing Deadline | With the mail rule on, the three FRCP 6(d) days were added to the raw day-30 date and the result rolled only once, so a weekend ending made the deadline a day early: 30 days from Fri 22 Jan 2027 by mail gave Wed 24 Feb 2027 (and Wed 3 Jun 2026 from Fri 1 May 2026). It also defaulted to business days and a 10-day period, though FRCP periods count calendar days and discovery responses are 30 days. | Rolls the period off any weekend or holiday first, then adds 3 calendar days, then rolls again: Thu 25 Feb 2027 (Thu 4 Jun 2026). Defaults to 30 calendar days. The mail-rule label and page copy say e-service gets no extra days. |
| Service of Process Deadline | It defaulted to 21 business days, though the FRCP 12 answer period is 21 calendar days. It added the mail days before the weekend roll instead of after, and it offered 'Electronic service (+3 days)' as a plain option, though federal e-service lost the 3 days in 2016. The page example said service by mail on 1 Jun 2026 was due Fri 3 Jul 2026, but the tool gave Mon 6 Jul. | Defaults to calendar days. Federal mail service rolls the period, then adds 3 days, then rolls again. The electronic, out-of-state mail and publication options are labelled as state-court rules. Mail service on 1 Jun 2026 with 21 days now gives Thu 25 Jun 2026; with business days ticked it gives Mon 6 Jul, and the page example now says both. |
| Court Date Calculator | The response period defaulted to business days although the page cites FRCP 6, which counts calendar days. A 30-day response from 1 Jun 2026 projected a hearing on Mon 5 Apr 2027. | Defaults to calendar days: response due Wed 1 Jul 2026, projected hearing Wed 30 Dec 2026. The page example and FAQ now give these figures (about seven months, or about ten in court days). |
| Right of Rescission (3-Business-Day) | It used the federal observed holiday dates. When a fixed-date holiday falls on a Saturday, it treated the Friday as a holiday and the Saturday as a business day, the reverse of Reg Z. Closing on 30 Jun 2026 gave Sat 4 Jul 2026. Its limits text also said same-creditor refinances are 'generally not rescindable'. | Uses the actual 5 USC 6103(a) dates (Jan 1, Jun 19, Jul 4, Nov 11, Dec 25). A Friday observed for a Saturday holiday counts as a business day and the Saturday does not, giving Fri 3 Jul 2026. A Monday observed for a Sunday holiday is still treated as a holiday, which can only make the deadline later, and the limits text says so. The limits text now says a same-creditor refinance is rescindable to the extent of new money (1026.23(f)(2)). |
| NZ Court Filing Deadline | Working-day counts skipped only public holidays. NZ court working days also exclude 25 Dec to 15 Jan, so 30 working days from 1 Dec 2026 gave Mon 18 Jan 2027, and 5 working days from 20 Dec 2026 landed on Tue 29 Dec. | Working-day mode now skips every day from 25 December to 15 January. It also skips the anniversary day of the selected region, which the definition does exclude ('the day observed as the anniversary day of the province in which the court is located'). 30 working days from 1 Dec 2026 now gives Wed 3 Feb 2027 with Canterbury selected. Calendar-day mode is unchanged. |
| Final Paycheck Deadline (US) | Any state outside CA/NY/TX/FL/WA silently got New York's next-payday rule (+14 days). A Massachusetts discharge on 15 Jul 2026 showed Wed 29 Jul, though the law requires payment on the day of discharge. Florida was shown a 'state rule' although it has no final-pay statute. A California employee who quit with 72 hours' notice was always given +3 days. | Uncovered states return 'No verified rule for <state>' with no date and list the covered states (CA, NY, TX, WA, FL). Florida returns 'Florida has no final-paycheck statute'. A new option, 'Quit with 72+ hours' notice (CA)', gives the last day worked (Lab. Code 202). The state picker ticks the covered states. |
| Statute of Limitations Deadline | Florida personal injury used 4 years, though since HB 837 (24 Mar 2023) negligence is 2 years. An incident on 13 Oct 2026 gave Sun 13 Oct 2030. | Florida PI is 2 years (Fla. Stat. 95.11(5)(a)), giving Fri 13 Oct 2028. Incidents on or before 24 Mar 2023 keep 4 years, and an explanatory note is shown. |
| Tax Filing Deadline Extender | It ignored DC Emancipation Day, which IRC 7503 treats as a legal holiday. 15 Apr 2028 gave Mon 17 Apr 2028 and 15 Apr 2023 gave Mon 17 Apr 2023, a day earlier than the IRS deadline. The page example also gave the 2023 extension date as 17 Oct; the tool's date was 16 Oct. | Treats 16 April as a holiday, or Fri 15 Apr when the 16th is a Saturday and Mon 17 Apr when it is a Sunday, inside this tool only. 15 Apr 2028 now gives Tue 18 Apr 2028. The past IRS deadlines are reproduced: 2017 Tue 18 Apr, 2018 Tue 17 Apr, 2022 Mon 18 Apr, 2023 Tue 18 Apr. 2027 is unchanged (Thu 15 Apr). The page copy is updated. |
| HIPAA Breach Notification Deadline | The HHS report for a small breach (<500) was hard-coded to 28 February of the next year. | Due 60 days after 31 December: 1 March 2027, or 29 February 2028 in a leap year. The page copy is updated. |
| FMLA Leave Return-to-Work | 'Leave workdays used' counted only Monday to Friday. 12 workweeks on Sun-Thu showed 48, and on Mon-Sat 60. | Counts every day of the chosen workweek: Sun-Thu 60, Mon-Sat 72, Mon-Fri 60. |
| Bid / Tender / RFP Deadline | The question deadline was fixed at 7 business days before opening. With the default 10-day lead it fell after the submission deadline: for an opening on 11 Nov 2026, questions Nov 2 and submission Oct 28. | The question deadline is now 5 business days before the submission deadline (Oct 21, 2026), and its label and page copy say so. |
| Board Meeting Notice Period | No notice unit was selected, so the form defaulted to Weeks: 10 weeks' notice out of the box, giving notice by 2 Sep 2026 for an 11 Nov 2026 meeting. 'Clear days before meeting' also counted the meeting day. | Defaults to calendar days through cfg.defaults.noticeUnit, giving notice by 1 Nov 2026. notice-period and nz-notice-period still default to Weeks. Clear days now exclude both the notice day and the meeting day: 21 days before 30 Jun 2026 gives 9 Jun with 20 clear days. The FAQ explains how to enter a clear-days rule. |
| NZ Filing Same-Day Cutoff | 'Submitted at' defaulted to the viewer's own clock and was compared with the NZ cut-off without conversion. The label did not say NZ time. | The field is labelled 'Submitted at (New Zealand time)'. It defaults to the current Pacific/Auckland time through Intl, both at build time and on the client refresh, and the result shows 'Submitted (NZ time)'. The page copy and an FAQ explain how overseas filers convert their time. The limits text notes that the court summer exclusion is not applied here. |
| Contract End Date Calculator | The 'Notice period (days)' field counts business days but did not say so, and the limits text claimed the tool does not model notice windows. | The field is relabelled 'Notice period (business days)'. The limits text now says the notice deadline is counted back in business days and that calendar-day clauses must be converted. The page copy already said business days. |
| Support Ticket Response Deadline | The tool consults no public-holiday calendar, and the page did not say so. | Added a limits line, an intro sentence and an FAQ saying holidays are counted as normal working days and must be adjusted by hand. No holiday support was added. |
| SLA Response / Resolution Deadline | The limits text implied a holiday calendar comes into play, but the tool consults none. | Added a limits line saying no holiday calendar is used. The page FAQ already said so. |
| I-9 Form 3-Business-Day Deadline | The page FAQ said I-9 business days exclude federal holidays, but 8 CFR 274a.2(b)(1)(ii) only says 'three business days' and does not define them. | The FAQ, intro, example and limits now say the tool skips federal holidays by default and that a business open on the holiday should clear the holiday calendar and use the earlier date: start Wed 1 Jul 2026 gives Tue 7 Jul by default, or Mon 6 Jul with the calendar cleared. |
| ACH Settlement Date Calculator | The calculator treated the Friday before a Saturday holiday as a non-banking day, but the Federal Reserve is open that Friday. A next-day file on Thu 2 Jul 2026 showed Mon 6 Jul. A file sent on a holiday was also counted from that day, so a standard file on Veterans Day (Wed 11 Nov 2026) showed Fri 13 Nov. | Uses the Fed holiday schedule (a Saturday holiday is not observed; a Sunday holiday is observed on the Monday). A file sent on a weekend or holiday is processed on the next banking day. Thu 2 Jul 2026 next-day now settles Fri 3 Jul 2026, and 11 Nov 2026 standard now settles Mon 16 Nov 2026. A new 'Processed on' stat shows the processing day. |
| T+1 / T+2 Trade Settlement | Settlement was counted on the NYSE calendar alone, so trades settled on Columbus Day and Veterans Day, when banks are closed and there is no settlement. A Fri 9 Oct 2026 T+1 trade showed Mon 12 Oct. | Trade dates still follow the NYSE calendar. Settlement now skips both NYSE holidays and Fed bank holidays. Fri 9 Oct 2026 settles Tue 13 Oct, and a trade done on Columbus Day (Mon 12 Oct) also settles Tue 13 Oct, together with Friday's trades, as in FINRA's schedules. Tue 10 Nov 2026 settles Thu 12 Nov. An order entered on a day the market is closed is treated as traded on the next trading day. |
| Payroll Pay Period Generator | Each monthly pay date was built from the previous, already-clamped date, so a schedule anchored on the 30th fell back to the 27th and 28th after February and stayed there. Starting Fri 30 Jan 2026 gave Feb 27, Mar 27, Apr 28, May 28, Jun 26. | Every period is now anchored to the start date's day of the month, clamped to the month's length and then rolled back off weekends and holidays: Jan 30, Feb 27, Mar 30, Apr 30, May 29, Jun 30 2026. A new stat lists the pay dates that were moved off a weekend or holiday, e.g. 'Feb 28 → Feb 27 (weekend); May 30 → May 29 (weekend)'. |
| Loan / Mortgage Payment Projector | The form showed an 'Interval (days)' box that the calculation never read, so changing it did nothing. | The box has been removed. The projector uses a monthly schedule, as its page copy already says. |
| Medicare Initial Enrollment Period Calculator | 'Coverage starts' always showed the first day of the 65th-birthday month, even for someone born on the 1st. It also left out the rule for enrolling in or after the birthday month. | Shows the actual date. Born 1 Jun 1961: 'May 1, 2026 if you enroll by April 2026'. Born 15 Jun: 'Jun 1, 2026 if you enroll by May 2026'. A second line says that enrolling from the birthday month to the end of the enrollment period starts coverage on the first of the following month. |
| IRS Tax Refund Date Estimator | With the EITC/ACTC (PATH Act) box ticked, the estimate was Feb 15 to Feb 22. The IRS expects most of these refunds by about the first week of March. Feb 15 2026 was also a Sunday, and Mon 16 Feb was Presidents Day. | The window now opens on the first IRS business day on or after Feb 15 and runs to the first Monday of March for direct deposit: Feb 17 to Mar 2, 2026. For paper checks it runs about two weeks later, but only when the PATH hold is the later constraint. The PATH stat now gives the IRS wording. |
| Passport Renewal Timing Calculator | Routine processing was labelled and modelled as about 6–8 weeks, and mailing time was ignored. The State Department now quotes 4–6 weeks routine and 2–3 weeks expedited, plus up to 2 weeks of mail each way. | Labels now read 'Routine (~4–6 weeks + mailing)' and 'Expedited (~2–3 weeks + mailing)'. The model takes the top of each range plus 2 weeks of mail in each direction. It shows when processing is done and when the passport is in hand, and keeps a further 2-week margin for the apply-by date, which is now 12 weeks before departure for routine (previously 10) and 9 weeks for expedited. For a 1 Dec 2026 trip, run on 13 Oct 2026, routine was 'ready Dec 8' and is now 'in hand Dec 22', and apply-by moved from Sep 22 to Sep 8. |
| FSA Grace Period & Run-Out Deadline | The grace period end was calculated as plan-year end + 2 months + 15 days, which comes out a day early for plan years ending on the 30th: 30 Jun gave 14 Sep and 30 Nov gave 14 Feb. | The grace period now ends on the 15th day of the third calendar month after the plan year ends: 30 Jun 2026 → 15 Sep 2026, 30 Nov 2026 → 15 Feb 2027, 31 Dec → 15 Mar (unchanged), 28 Feb → 15 May. |
| School Term Business Day Counter | The 'Include start date' and 'Include end date' checkboxes did nothing. | An unticked endpoint is now left out of the term total and of the elapsed and remaining counts. |
| NZ / AU Business Day Calculator | The tool ignored the region selects, custom closures and include-start/end boxes that the form shows, and always counted both endpoints against the national calendars only. | The NZ region (anniversary day) and AU state selections are now applied. Custom closures apply to both countries, and the endpoint boxes are honoured. Both NZ and AU are preselected so that both region selects appear, and each count is labelled with its region or as 'national holidays only'. Selecting other countries has no effect, because the tool always compares NZ with AU. Example: 1 Jan to 31 Mar 2026 with Wellington and Victoria selected was 61 NZ vs 62 AU and is now 60 vs 61. 24 Dec 2025 to 9 Jan 2026 with custom 2026-01-05 and includeStart:false was 9 vs 10 and is now 7 vs 8. |
| Divorce / Marriage Waiting Period | The state picker did not mark which states have verified waiting periods, so 45 uncovered states looked selectable until the result refused to compute. | The picker now shows ✓ for CA, TX, NY, FL, NV and IL and '— no data' for the rest, as the other state-table tools do. CA remains the default. |
| Construction Shutdown Calculator | The stat 'Working days before shutdown' actually held the working days in the whole range with the shutdown ignored (52 in the companion post's example). Readers could mistake it for the 15 working days before the shutdown starts. | It is relabelled 'Working days in range, ignoring the shutdown' (52). New stats show 'Working days before the shutdown starts' (15) and 'Working days after the shutdown ends' (24). |
| Timezone Working Hours Overlap | The overlap was scanned in whole UTC hours, so half-hour zones came out wrong. London vs Kolkata on 20 Oct 2026 showed 4 hours, with Kolkata 13:30–17:30, past the 17:00 finish. An overlap split into two blocks was shown as one range from the first hour to the last. | The scan now runs in 15-minute steps. London vs Kolkata shows 3.5 hours (09:00–12:30 London, 13:30–17:00 Kolkata). Separate blocks are listed individually, e.g. '06:00 – 10:00 and 18:00 – 22:00'. The meeting suggestion is taken from the longest block. |
| Holiday Bridge-Day Finder | The region picker was ignored: AU/Victoria 2026 did not show Mon 2 Nov as a bridge to Melbourne Cup. Selecting several countries merged their calendars into one. The headline also read '1 bridge-day opportunities'. | Each selected country is checked against its own calendar, including its region. AU/VIC 2026 now shows 2 opportunities, including Mon 2 Nov → Melbourne Cup Day. US+UK 2026 shows 4 opportunities, each labelled 'US:' or 'UK:' (it was 3, merged). The headline grammar is fixed ('1 bridge-day opportunity'). |
| Payment Terms Calculator (2/10 Net 30) | The page talked about the annualised cost of the discount, but the tool never showed it. The page copy also said 'roughly 36%'. | New output 'Annualised cost of not taking the discount' = d/(1−d) × 365/(net − discount days). For 2/10 Net 30 it shows 37.2%. It shows n/a when the discount window is not shorter than the net term. Copy updated to about 37%. |
| Hybrid Work Schedule Calculator | The limits text said the tool 'does not model … a requirement to be in on specific weekdays', when counting specific in-office weekdays is exactly what it does. | The limits text now says the tool counts the in-office days your chosen weekdays produce, after holidays and closures, and that it does not schedule a flexible 'N days a week' policy or model anchor days, desk booking or capacity. |
Holiday data, same day
- Was: Scotland's 2 January and St Andrew's Day and Northern Ireland's St Patrick's Day and Battle of the Boyne used the US rule (a Saturday holiday moves to Friday). Scotland's 2 January 2027 landed on Friday 1 January and replaced New Year's Day. Now: UK substitute days go to the following Monday, as gov.uk lists them: Scotland Mon 4 Jan 2027, St Andrew's Day Mon 1 Dec 2025, Battle of the Boyne Mon 13 Jul 2026.
- Was: New Zealand's 1 and 2 January were Mondayised separately, so when 1 January is a Saturday both landed on the same Monday and one holiday vanished (Tue 4 Jan 2028 counted as a working day). Now: They move as a pair, like Christmas and Boxing Day: Mon 3 and Tue 4 January 2028.
October 12, 2026: guides corrected
Every older guide was re-read against the calculator it describes, and its worked examples were re-run. Most of these were accurate when written and went stale when the calculator behind them was fixed in July or August; some were simply wrong. 84 guides were corrected, and each now shows an “Updated” date. What each one said before, and says now:
- How to Count Business Days Between Two Dates (Without Miscounting Either End)
- Said Columbus Day and Veterans Day are normal settlement days because the NYSE trades → now says they are trading days but not settlement days, because banks are closed.
- Said Australian Labour Day falls in four different months → three (March, May, October).
- Your SLA Clock Should Tick in Business Hours, Not Calendar Hours
- Said the SLA calculator applies your holiday calendar → now says it counts the working window and workweek only, with no holiday calendar.
- Calculating the Last Working Day of a Notice Period
- Said four weeks' notice from a Monday ends on a Sunday → it ends on the Monday; the weekend example now uses notice given on a Sunday (ends Sunday, last working day the Friday).
- The 3-Business-Day Right of Rescission, Counted Correctly
- Said the Closing Disclosure 3-day rule uses the general Reg Z business-day definition in some applications → it uses the same Sundays-and-federal-holidays definition as rescission (12 CFR 1026.2(a)(6)).

- Said Australian Labour Day falls in four different months → three (March, May, October).

- The GDPR DSAR Deadline: "One Month" Is Trickier Than It Sounds
- Said 30 days and one month differ in every month except one → they match in the four 30-day months (April, June, September, November).
- Said a January DSAR gets 28 days → a February request gets 28 (29 in a leap year); January requests get 31.
- When a Trade Has Two Legs: Settlement Across Two Holiday Calendars
- Said the T+1 calculator lets you pick each leg's holiday calendar → it uses a fixed US calendar; the post now points the second leg to the Add Business Days calculator, which has a country picker.
- Leg one said to choose the settling market's calendar in the T+1 calculator → now uses the T+1 calculator for US securities and Add Business Days with the right country for others.
- Leg two said to rerun the T+1 calculator with the currency's calendar → now uses Add Business Days with that currency's country selected.
- Said the settlement calculator counts against the calendar you pick → it uses a fixed US calendar; only Add Business Days takes a country.
- The WARN Act 60-Day Notice: Counting the Earliest Lawful Layoff Date

- Said a fixed Sat/Sun weekend only ever overcharges → it overcharges for weekdays not worked and undercharges for Saturdays that are worked.
- The I-9 Three-Business-Day Rule: Counting the Deadline Correctly

- Said the small-breach HHS log is due by the end of February → 60 days after year-end: 1 March (29 February in leap years).
- Gave the small-breach annual report as the end of February → 1 March (29 February in a leap year)
- Cooling-Off Periods: How to Count the Cancellation Deadline Correctly
- Said the FTC 3-day rule skips Saturdays and a Thursday sale before a holiday Monday runs to the following Thursday → Saturdays count; it expires Tuesday.

- Said the California and New York lien deadlines from the same date are eight months apart → about five months (30 May vs 27 October).
- Said the calculator shows a preliminary-notice date about 20 days after your last day (1 March → 21 March) → the notice runs from your first day on the job, so the tool states the rule instead of a date

- Said 30 business days lands several days after 30 calendar days → two weeks later (1 May 2026 service: 1 June vs 15 June).

- ACH post: said to enter a number of days (0, 1 or 2) → now says to choose the settlement class from the tool's dropdown.

- Courthouse-closure post: 'a calculator models only the predictable closures' → it can take unscheduled closure dates once you know them.
- Why Project Milestones Slip: Count Business Days, Not Calendar Days
- Project-milestone post: said the projector shows a breakdown of skipped days → it returns the date only; the business-days-between tool lists the days.
- Project-milestone post: said the projector runs in reverse → it only counts forward; backward counts use Add Business Days with 'subtract'.

- Cold-Chain Logistics: Matching Transit Time to Shelf Life
- Cold-chain post: said the tool projects delivery only and you compare shelf life yourself → it takes shelf life and reports days remaining on arrival plus a viable/not-viable verdict.
- Cold-chain post example (ship 1 Jul 2026, 4+3 business days, 21-day shelf life): 'a week and a half out, around two weeks of life left' → arrives Mon 13 Jul (12 calendar days, July 3 holiday skipped), 9 days of shelf life left; a 10-day product expires 2 days before arrival.

- Why Your Loan Payment Due Date Doesn't Land on the Same Day Every Month

- Said the calculator only counts the deadline date → now describes its submission-time and cut-off inputs and same-day/next-day lodgement result.
- Contingency Periods Don't Chain: Turning a Purchase Contract Into Closing Dates
- Said entering 0 for a waived contingency is ignored and still shows a date → now says 0 shows the contingency as 'Waived' and only a blank box uses the default.
- Said 0 still returns Monday 21 September and a cash deal's financing line still shows a date → now says 0 shows 'Waived' and a blank brings back the default.
- Checklist said not to zero out waived contingencies → now says enter 0 so the line reads 'Waived'.
- Examples now state they use the 'Use business days' setting (unticked, the calculator counts calendar days rolled off weekends: closing Oct 5 instead of Oct 20).
- Gave the blank-field defaults as business days → 10, 21 and 30 days, counted in calendar days unless you tick the business-day option
- Should You Offer 2/10 Net 30? The Supplier’s Side of Early-Payment Discounts
- Said the calculator shows the exact cost per invoice → now per $1,000 invoiced (it has no invoice-amount input).
- How Much of a New Zealand Date Range Do You Actually Get to Work?
- Said two 30-day windows would be quoted as 'about six weeks' → now 'about a month'.
- No Deposit Deadline for Your State? Why the Calculator Covers Sixteen and Refuses the Rest
- Description said uncovered states quietly return 30 days → now says they return no date.
- Title referred to a 30-day fallback that no longer exists → retitled around the 16 covered states.
- Said Oregon returns a 30-day deadline (Sat 3 Oct) → now says the calculator returns no date for Oregon.
- Said the 30 on screen is a fallback → now past tense: the fallback was removed.
- Said uncovered states silently return 30 days → now says they're marked 'no data' in the picker and return no date.
- Section described the 30-day default as current → now explains why it was removed.
- Added that the calculator now refuses uncovered states.
- Reframed the off-30 state list as the risk of assuming 30 days rather than a live tool default.
- Weekend example moved from Oregon (no longer computed) to Texas (30 days → Sat 3 Oct); notes Arizona counts business days.
- Arizona listed as 14 days → now 14 days excluding weekends and holidays (about 20 calendar days).
- Checklist said uncovered states show the 30-day fallback → now says they get no date and to look up the statute.
- Closing line referred to a default number → now says you supply the figure for uncovered states.
- Tax Filing Extensions: Don't Just Add Six Months
- Said the tax deadline calculator gives the actual date → now notes it omits DC Emancipation Day, so e.g. 15 April 2028 shows Mon 17 April where the IRS deadline is Tue 18 April.
- T+1 Settlement: Counting Trade Settlement Dates After the Switch
- Said Columbus Day and Veterans Day are normal settlement days → they are trading days but not settlement days (banks closed), so a Friday trade before Columbus Day settles Tuesday, not Monday.
- Said a civil business-day calendar is wrong in both directions for settlement → a settlement day must be open on both the NYSE and bank calendars.
- Said the T+1 calculator treats Columbus Day and Veterans Day as settlement days → it now excludes them along with Good Friday (Fri 9 Oct 2026 trade: Mon 12 Oct → Tue 13 Oct).
- The Final Paycheck Deadline: Why "Fired" and "Quit" Are Two Different Clocks
- Said the final paycheck calculator returns the governing deadline for your state → it estimates one (next payday treated as 14 days) and has rules for only CA, NY, TX, FL and WA.
- Computing Civil Discovery Deadlines: FRCP 6, the +3 Mail Rule, and the Roll-Forward
- Discovery-deadline post: said the weekend roll is applied after adding the three mail days → now says the period is rolled first, then the three days are added (FRCP 6(d) and its 2005 Committee Note).
- Discovery-deadline post example: '34th day from the trigger', roll applied after the mail days → served Fri 1 May 2026: day 30 is Sun 31 May, rolls to Mon 1 Jun, +3 = Thu 4 Jun.
- Discovery-deadline post: said certain electronic service adds three days → now says electronic service has not added days since the 2016 amendment; mail, clerk and other consented means do.
- Board Meeting Notice Periods: Counting Backwards From the Vote
- Board-notice post: said the calculator counts back in business days only → it counts in calendar days, business days, weeks or months (your choice).
- Board-notice post: said the tool shows a question/document deadline a week ahead → the tool shows the notice-by date only; set the earlier checkpoint yourself.
- Board-notice post: 14 clear days 'needs 16 calendar days between', 'two days short' → notice on the 1st allows a meeting on the 16th; the ordinary count gives the 15th, one day short.
- Counting a Court Filing Deadline in New Zealand: Calendar Days, Working Days, and the Roll-Forward Rule
- Implied the public-holiday calendar captures every court closure → now flags the 25 Dec–15 Jan period that court working-day counts also exclude.
- "Next Regular Payday" Is Not a Date: Pinning Down a Final Paycheck Deadline
- Said states outside the five covered are scored against the next-regular-payday pattern → the calculator now returns no date for them (Massachusetts and Colorado require payment at discharge)
August 13, 2026: three code audits
Three audits read every calculator's arithmetic against the rule it implements, then ran each one through 1,210 boundary cases (blank fields, zero, reversed ranges, extreme years). These are the fixes that changed a date or number a visitor would see.
| Calculator | What was wrong | What it does now |
|---|---|---|
| WARN Act Layoff Notice Deadline | Counted 10 business days backward from the layoff date, borrowed from the bid-deadline tool. | Counts the 60 calendar days federal WARN requires (the period is editable, because some state laws require 90). |
| FMLA Leave Return-to-Work | Added 10 business days to the leave start date. | Adds the 12 workweeks of FMLA leave (26 for military caregiver leave) and rolls to the next scheduled workday. |
| SEC Filing Deadline | Gave accelerated filers 45 days for a 10-Q and used the pre-2024 10-day deadline for Schedule 13D. | Both accelerated tiers get 40 days for a 10-Q; Schedule 13D is due in 5 business days. Rule 0-3 roll-forward applies to every form. |
| Statute of Limitations Deadline | Held verified periods for 4 states and applied a generic 2-year fallback to the other 46, so in a 1-year state such as Tennessee or Kentucky it returned a date a year after the claim had expired. | Returns no date for a state it does not cover and names the states it does. The same fix went into the mechanic’s lien, security deposit and workers’ comp tools. |
| COBRA Election Deadline Calculator | Measured the 45-day first-premium deadline from the end of the election window, not from the election. | Takes the election date. Electing on day 10 now gives a first-premium deadline of day 55, not day 105. |
| Rotating Shift Calendar | Advertised Panama, DuPont and custom rotations but had no pattern selector, so every result was 4-on-4-off. | All four patterns exist and the selector renders. |
| T+1 / T+2 Trade Settlement | Counted settlement days on the civil holiday calendar, so a T+1 trade could settle on Good Friday (NYSE closed) and not on Columbus Day (NYSE open). | Uses an NYSE trading calendar and names the closures it crossed. The NZ settlement tool now uses NZX trading days. |
| Federal Civil Appeal Deadline (FRAP 4) | Passed an empty holiday list to the roll-forward, so a FRAP 4 deadline that landed on Memorial Day stayed there. | Rolls past federal holidays. The 401(k) deposit tool had the same defect and got the same fix. |
| Probate Timeline Calculator | Started the creditor-claim and inventory clocks at the date of death. | Starts them at the issuance of letters, which is now an input. |
| OPT / STEM OPT / Visa Grace Period | Treated the 24-month STEM extension as 24 × 30 days (720 days). | Adds 24 calendar months. |
| Discovery / Court Filing Deadline | Folded the FRCP 6(d) three extra days for mail service into a business-day count. | Adds the three days as calendar days, as the rule says. |
| Mechanic’s Lien Filing Deadline | Showed California’s 20-day preliminary notice for every state. | Shows the preliminary notice only where the state requires one. |
| Payroll Pay Period Generator | Implemented semi-monthly pay as “add 15 days”, which drifted: from 1 January it paid Jan 16, Jan 31, Feb 15, then Mar 2, Mar 17 and Apr 1, about 24.3 periods a year. | Pays on the 15th and the last day of the month, moved back to the previous working day when either is a weekend or holiday. |
| Real Estate Closing Date | Read a 0-day financing contingency (a cash offer) as blank and reinstated the 21-day default. Contingencies were also counted only in business days. | A 0 shows as “Waived”. Contingencies default to calendar days, with a business-day option. |
| Net 30 Invoice Due Date | Read “Net 0” as blank and used Net 30. | Net 0 is due on the invoice date. 38 inputs across the site were fixed the same way. |
| Divorce / Marriage Waiting Period | Guessed 60 days for the 45 states outside its table. | Returns no date for an uncovered state and names the six it covers. |
| Notice Period / Last Working Day | Could report a Saturday as the last working day. | Reports both the formal end of the notice period and the last day actually worked. |
| Freelance Invoice Scheduler | Accepted any number of cycles; 9,999 produced nearly 20,000 rows and hung the browser. | Inputs and loops are bounded. |
| Vacation Accrual Projector | Ignored the start date and printed “Month 1”, “Month 2” and so on. | Anchors real dates and shows the balance accrued to today. |
| Subscription Renewal Date | Moved renewals off weekends by default, which card billing does not do. | Renews on the calendar date by default; moving to a working day is an option. |
| Working Days Left in Year | Counted today, while the countdown tool did not. | Excludes today, so the two tools agree. |
| Holiday Bridge-Day Finder | Ignored holidays that fall on a Wednesday. | Shows them: two bridge days for a five-day break. |
| Passport Renewal Timing Calculator | Did not take the passport’s expiry date, so it could not check the six-month validity rule its own guide is about. | Takes the expiry date and warns when the passport is valid for the trip but short of six months. |
Holiday data, same day
Every calculator reads the same holiday tables, so these affected any count that crossed the dates involved.
- Was: Christmas and Boxing Day were moved off weekends independently and could land on the same date, where one overwrote the other. Now: They now move as a pair. Canada 2026, New Zealand and Australia 2027 each had lost Christmas; the UK’s 2027 Boxing Day substitute was missing (now Tuesday 28 December).
- Was: Victoria Day was the fourth Monday of May, which is a week late in 7 years out of 12. Now: The Monday on or before 24 May.
- Was: New Zealand’s Matariki dates stopped at 2030. Now: The full gazetted schedule to 2052, with a warning beyond it.
- Was: Canada had no National Day for Truth and Reconciliation; Australia’s national set had no King’s Birthday; the UK had no regions. Now: All added: 30 September in Canada from 2021, King’s Birthday on the second Monday of June, and Scotland and Northern Ireland as UK regions.
July 29, 2026: content-accuracy audit
Every calculator page's explanation was checked claim by claim against the code. 84 findings; where the code was wrong it was fixed, and where the text was wrong the text was.
| Calculator | What was wrong | What it does now |
|---|---|---|
| I-9 Form 3-Business-Day Deadline | Every tool started at a hard-coded 10 business days, whatever its rule. The I-9 page offered 10 days instead of 3. | Each tool starts at its own period: 3 business days for the I-9, 2 for Reg CC holds and NZX settlement, 5 for customs, 21 calendar days for letters of credit, 30 calendar days for an IRS levy notice. |
| Stock Option Post-Termination Exercise | Counted the 90-day post-termination window in business days, landing about six and a half weeks after the real deadline. | Counts 90 calendar days with no roll-forward, and shows the last business day to act. |
| NZ / AU Business Day Calculator | Auckland Anniversary 2026 resolved to 2 February, and ANZAC Day 2026 (a Saturday) was not moved to Monday. | Auckland Anniversary is 26 January 2026; ANZAC Day is observed on Monday 27 April 2026. |
| 4-Day / Custom Work Week | When a workweek preset and the weekday checkboxes both appeared, the checkboxes silently won and the preset did nothing. | Choosing a preset sets the checkboxes. |
| Date Difference Analyzer | The worked example on the page counted exclusively (29 days, 696 hours) while the tool counts inclusively. | The example matches the tool: 30 days, 720 hours. 53 calculator pages had their text corrected to match the code in the same pass. |
Other changes
- October 12, 2026. Guides can now be scheduled, and new ones go out on Tuesdays and Fridays. The sitemap reports when each page's content last changed, instead of the time of the last build. This page was added.
- September 7, 2026. Guides carry their author's name. Advertising code was removed from pages with no content of their own (404, contact, privacy, terms).
- August 26, 2026. Each calculator is served in the page itself, with a worked result, instead of being assembled by script after load. 52 calculators cite the statute or regulation they apply, every calculator lists what it does not compute, and each page shows the date its rules were last verified. The methodology page was added, and the ten shortest guides were rewritten at full length.
- August 13, 2026. Reading times were recalculated from each guide's text (73 of 118 overstated it), and claims about 18 languages were removed; the site is English only.
- July 5, 2026. The SLA service credit calculator computed a breach deadline, not the uptime and service credit its name promised. It now measures business-hours downtime against the month's business hours and estimates the credit.
