How the Working Days per Month works
The Working Days per Month calculator lays out the number of working days in every month of a chosen year for the country you select, excluding weekends and that country’s public holidays. It is built for payroll, billing, and capacity planning that depend on the real workday count.
A 31-day month can hold 21, 22, or 23 weekdays depending on how the dates fall, and public holidays then vary the total by country — which is why two teams on the same calendar can legitimately disagree on how many working days a month contains.
Worked example
A month with 22 weekdays and two public holidays has 20 working days. For a contractor on a daily rate, that is the figure the monthly invoice is built on — not a generic "about 21 days".
Frequently asked questions
Does the count change by country?
Yes. The weekday pattern is the same worldwide, but public holidays differ, so selecting a different country can change the working-day total for a given month.
Can I see the whole year at once?
Yes. The calculator returns a month-by-month breakdown for the year you choose, so you can plan capacity and budgets across all twelve months.
What is it most used for?
Payroll and contractor billing, team capacity planning, and revenue forecasting tied to working days.
Why does this not match our payroll figures?
Because most payroll systems do not use actual working days. Monthly salaried pay is typically the annual figure divided by twelve regardless of the month’s length, and pro-rata calculations often use a fixed nominal figure such as 21.67 days. Both are right for their own purpose; they are answering different questions.
What this calculator does not do
A limitation you know about costs far less than one you find after the deadline. These are the specific things this tool cannot work out for you.
- Counts are for the calendar you select. Payroll systems frequently use a fixed nominal month instead, so these figures may not match a payslip.
