How the Business Days Between Two Dates works

The Business Days Between Two Dates calculator counts the working days from a start date to an end date, skipping weekends and the public holidays of the country you choose. Pick your two dates, select a holiday calendar, and decide whether the endpoints should be included — the result and a full breakdown appear instantly.

The hard part of this calculation is never the weekends; it is the holidays and the inclusive-versus-exclusive convention. A range that looks like five days can resolve to three once a public holiday and a weekend fall inside it, which is exactly where manual counts go wrong.

Worked example

From Monday May 25 to Friday May 29, a naive count says five days. If May 25 is a public holiday in your selected country, the calculator returns four business days — and shows you the holiday it removed so the number is auditable.

Frequently asked questions

Does it include both the start and end dates?

You choose. The calculator offers an inclusive mode (both endpoints count) and an exclusive mode (neither does). Decide which convention your contract or process uses before you read the number — that single choice is the most common source of off-by-one errors.

Which public holidays are excluded?

The holidays of whichever country you select, on top of Saturdays and Sundays. If your organisation observes days that are not national holidays, add them as custom closures so they are removed from the count too.

Is it free and private?

Yes. The calculation runs entirely in your browser, your dates are never sent to a server, and there is no signup.
