How the Project Milestone Projector works
The Project Milestone Projector takes a kickoff date and a buffer expressed in business days and returns the date a milestone actually lands on, skipping weekends and the public holidays you select. Enter the start date, the number of working days, your workweek, and the relevant country (plus any company shutdowns as custom holidays) — the tool counts forward over working days only and returns a date the team can genuinely work toward.
The buffer is counted in business days, not calendar days, which is the whole point. A milestone "two weeks out" is ten working days, not fourteen, and every weekend or holiday inside the span pushes the real date further from a naive calendar count. Counting in working days removes that drift so a chain of milestones stays internally consistent rather than slipping a little further with each stage.
Counting begins on the next working day after the kickoff — the start date is day zero, not day one. Treat the result as the earliest realistic landing date and add your own buffer for sign-offs and handoffs on top, because the projector measures available working days, not the queues and dependencies a plan also has to survive.
Worked example
A project kicks off on a Monday with a 10-business-day buffer to the first milestone. Counting only working days, the two intervening weekends drop out and the milestone lands on the Monday two weeks later — not the Thursday a 10-calendar-day count would suggest. Drop one public holiday into that window and the milestone slides one more working day, to the Tuesday, automatically.

Does the kickoff date count as the first business day?
No. Counting starts on the next working day after your kickoff date, which is the standard convention for "N business days from" a date. The start date itself is day zero, so a milestone five business days after a Monday kickoff lands on the following Monday.
How do I handle a company shutdown inside the milestone window?
Add the closed dates as custom holidays on top of the country you select. The projector then steps over that whole block, so the milestone never lands on a day the office is dark — useful for end-of-year closes, summer breaks, and local festivals that a national holiday list misses.
Can I use it to plan a chain of milestones?
Yes. Anchor each milestone to the same kickoff date and project its own business-day offset. Because every stage inherits the same weekend-and-holiday handling, the dates stay consistent with one another instead of accumulating off-by-a-weekend errors as the plan grows.
